Global Carnage: Day 1

Day 1 provided some lukewarm performances from headliners and a very anti-climactic finale from Empire of the Sun. InnerPartySystem and Big Gigantic proved to be the best acts of the first day and had the crowd up and dancing for their entire sets. Kid Cudi followed by playing mostly his slower/downer songs, which are still good in their own right, but not necessarily in tune with a “dance festival.” Empire of the Sun, however, were in a world of their own. I can understand the artistic surreality of their performance and the Gaga-esque costume designs, but again, just not at “dance festival,” although they definitely got that “global” part down. Sure, everyone broke out their best dance moves during “Walking on a Dream” and “We Are the People,” but the rest of the performance was riddled with too many dolphin go-go dancers, giant skulls wearing eagle capes, and wailing on microphone for me to fully get into it. And the main singer was kind of a douche.
